    Video Investigation: AI-Assisted Incident Reconstruction

Video investigation is the structured process of using recorded footage to establish what happened, who was involved, and in what sequence — producing documented evidence that withstands scrutiny.

    Investigation workflow with VidForgeX Forensic

Every investigation starts with a question: what happened, who was involved, when did it occur. Video evidence answers these questions — but only if the investigation is conducted systematically. VidForgeX Forensic structures the process into four phases.

    Phase 1: Scope and acquisition

Define the incident time window (typically ±30 minutes around the known event time), identify all cameras with coverage of the relevant area, and acquire footage with hash documentation in your evidence-management process. VidForgeX Forensic records the investigation context you provide at upload — case reference, footage source, and the stated basis for the recording-start time.

    Phase 2: AI triage

Upload all footage. VidForgeX Forensic automatically: detects persons and their movement timelines, identifies significant events (crowd formation, rapid movement, zone entry/exit), and produces a condensed event log that maps what happened across all cameras. This replaces manual scrubbing — the investigator reviews a structured timeline, not raw video.

    Phase 3: Subject investigation

If a specific person is sought, upload their reference image and run Find Person analysis across all footage. VidForgeX Forensic returns candidate sightings with timestamp, camera source, and a similarity tier. The investigator reviews the candidates, confirms or rejects each, and builds a subject movement map — the map records the investigator's decisions, not the machine's.

    Phase 4: Evidence export

Export the investigation package: PDF report with event timeline and annotated frame extracts, structured JSON case data with AI suggestions and investigator confirmations labelled apart, and a per-result analysis integrity hash. Exports are investigative work product — chain of custody of the original footage remains with your evidence-management process.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical video investigation workflow?
Define the incident window → acquire relevant footage with chain-of-custody documentation → AI triage to surface relevant events → subject identification via reference image → timeline reconstruction → evidence export with timestamps and hash verification → report generation for legal, HR, or insurance use.
How long does a typical video investigation take with VidForgeX?
A 4-hour incident window across 10 cameras that previously required 2–3 days of manual review can be triaged in 30–60 minutes with VidForgeX Forensic. Subject tracking and timeline reconstruction add 15–30 minutes. Total investigation time is typically 1–2 hours versus 2–3 days manual.
What evidence formats does VidForgeX Forensic export?
PDF report with timestamped event log, extracted frames with annotations, an analysis integrity hash per result, and structured JSON/Excel event exports for import into case management systems. AI-suggested groupings are labelled apart from investigator-confirmed conclusions in the data.
Can VidForgeX be used for insurance claim investigation?
Yes. VidForgeX Forensic is used for workers' compensation, slip-and-fall, and vehicle incident investigations. Preservative-vs-generative operation labeling and per-result integrity hashes support insurance evidence workflows; verify against your carrier's evidence requirements, and legal review is recommended for litigation use.
